ANOTHER THOMAS JEFFERSON 1861 STAMP WILL STAR AT KELLEHER AUCTIONS

We are glad to inform our readers about the latest auction news that will be more than interesting for each stamp collector.

This one concerns one of the finest known specimens of the US Thomas Jefferson 1861 5c brown-yellow stamp that will lead a sale of stamps at Kelleher Auctions in Danbury, Connecticut.

The American Civil War began on April 1, 1861. All stamps were invalidated shortly afterwards to stop the confederates sending mail, and a new series introduced in August of 1861. The 5c brown yellow was introduced in a run of just over 500,000 in May, 1861 and was only in use for a very short period before being invalidated.

The sale will take place on April 19-20, with the specimen valued at US$20,000-30,000.
