2018 FIFA World Cup celebrated by Malta Post

We are delighted to present a special miniature sheet with one stamp issued by Malta Post to celebrate the 2018 FIFA World CupTM. The stamp shows the official mascot of the event - a wolf named ZabivakaTM designed by a student, Ekaterina Bocharova. In Russian, ZabivakaTM means "the one who scores", a suitable name for this wolf who radiates fun, charm and confidence. This bright miniature sheet was created by Malta Post graphic designer Sean Cini.

Its design is based on the outline of the World Cup trophy while the bold use of red, gold, black and blue in the emblem's colour palette was inspired by centuries-old techniques seen in world-renowned Russian art dating back to the earliest icon paintings.

In 2018, FIFA 2018 World Cup™ will be held in Russia™ from June 14 to July 15, 2018. Russia will become a host country of this great event for the first time in its history and this will be the first World Cup held in Europe since the 2006 tournament in Germany. Football World Cup FIFA 2018 in Russia™ will be held in 11 cities in 12 stadiums. As this memorable event is awaited by everyone in Russia and in other countries, a great number of postal services have already released their special stamp issues to mark 2018 FIFA World Cup.
